Countdown to 2014 BATS, Day Sixteen

9 of Pentacles from The Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Welcome from Mount Hood. I’m not blogging from the mountain, although sometimes I do wish I had some internet. Today’s card is the 9 of Pentacles and like the person enjoying the sounds (in the case of The Shadowscapes Deck, making the sounds) of the area surrounding them, I am off in the woods enjoying my time away from the city. May you use this weekend to rest and get ready for the fun that BATS brings us all next weekend!

The Fool from The Shadowscapes Tarot
The Fool from The Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

I have one week left before I hop a plane to San Jose. I’m sure you know the way by now. Today’s card is The Fool. As you read this, I’m headed out to a weekend of camping on Mount Hood. I’ll be going with my husband, some friends, and a few druids. I’m looking forward to camping (haven’t done much of it since the move to our house in 2012). As I head out I’ll keep an open mind and a beginner’s mind to which I shall enjoy the weekend away from the Internet.

The Fool is a perfect card to draw for BATS preparedness. As we publish the schedule the first day of the Symposium, it helps to not have any expectations, other than to smile, have fun and know you’re in good hands.

Ace of Pentacles from The Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law
Ace of Pentacles from The Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Today’s draw is the Ace of Pentacles. When I see this card, I think about new projects and the paths that I am on. A few days ago, while talking to my counselor, I thought about how I wanted to move myself forward as far as taking on the identity of an Oracle or Seer. Tarot, divination, and my spirituality are very important to me and my counselor is helping me to not only push beyond the Depression I have but to use divination as a source of guidance, inspiration, and focus itself.

Seeing this Ace of Pentacles reminds me that I am deepening my connection and working towards fulfilling whatever I decide what an modern day Oracle/Seer is. And no matter what, I know that BATS will help me in this endeavor.

Page of Wands from The Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Today’s card is the Page of Wands. We’ve covered the Page of Cups earlier but now we’ve moved from the emotional flow of the Cups to the active “go getter” mentality of the Wands. The Page of Wands knows what needs to be done and sets forth to do it. In this case, I know I have many more blog posts and projects to work on and time is winding down to finish things in. I’m out of town this weekend, so I need to set up the blog posts for my countdown. I also need to begin work on a few new stories and writing projects.

In any case, this Page of Wands is lighting a fire under my feet to remind me that I head out in a week or so and if there’s anything I want to do before I leave for a week, to start working on it now. Good advice, if you ask me!

Three of Earth from The Gaian Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert
Three of Earth from The Gaian Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert

I drew the 3 of Pentacles for today. This card means many things to me. It represents working hard and enjoying that work. It also reminds me of collaborating with friends and coworkers. Some say that it also represents a project at completion, but since the 3 is towards the beginning I prefer to think of this stage in the work where everything is smooth sailing. Today is one of those days. I’m in my familiar Tuesday afternoon/evening haunt where I hammer out words and hopefully make sense. Later this evening, other writing friends will show up and we’ll continue to write, collaborate, and hone our prose into presentable forms for the masses to read.

I love these dates. They represent special spaces for me where I can devote large chunks of time to my personal projects. Two drafts of my tarot book have been written in such spaces. This vibe, and the collaboration with others, will carry me foward as I slowly begin to transition from being in Portland to my visit in San Jose.
