Tarot Blog Hop: Lammas

Happy Lammas (Llamas! as I like to call it.) This time I’d love to welcome all the visitors from Kerry Ardilla’s website. May this post be fruitful to you!

The topic for this Lammas blog hop, brought to us by our wrangler Kareena Narwani, is “Pentacles: the Fruits of Harvest.” Lammas is the first of two harvest holidays. During this time, we thank the Earth and the gods for providing us the grains that sustain us. It’s a time of abundance and warmth, of gathering and celebrating the summer. And for this post Kareena asked each of us to find the Pentacles card that we relate to right now.

So, I pulled out my Gaian Tarot and sorted out all the Pentacles (aka Earth). I then focused on the idea of what I have harvested this year so far and drew the Three of Earth. The image of this card almost reminds me more of the traditional Rider Waite image on the Three of Cups, where three women come together to celebrate the season. So that’s the first thing that I see fits into this card, a celebration. There are all sorts of harvests appearing in this card. Fruit, herbs, and drinks have been harvested and made and the ladies are all enjoying the harvest of the land and the work they put in to getting all those items into the hearth. The three women have been working (as evidenced by the woman on the right who is using a mortar and pestle) and now they’re laughing and drinking in a break. Just as I have been working hard the past two months with the move from Washington State and into my new forest retreat in Portland, Oregon.

The second thing that this card shares with me focuses around the work I’ve put into the house we purchased. The Three of Earth confirms for me that I’ve successfully set up a solid foundation to making the home a place where I can relax, celebrate success, and enjoy the world I live in. I look back at the last two months of all the labor and magic that I have put into my relocation project. Packing boxes, loading up the pod, and ending with returning our possessions into their new spots in this house. I love that we have such a quiet location that’s surrounded by trees and nature. It’s the forest retreat that I’ve always wanted to have. Last Sunday we had a wonderful BBQ with friends and it was fun to share all that we’ve done with our friends. The Three of Earth reminds me of why this work was so important. We work hard to celebrate and relax with friends, to reinforce the connections between ourselves, and the earth and how we can use harvest to strengthen those connections.

As the card appears near the beginning of the Earth’s numerical sequence, I see that my harvest has just begun. The physical connections and relationships that I have worked hard to grow are just starting. From a tarotista standpoint, the work I did at the Readers Studio was just the beginning. Later this month I’ll get to continue developing and nurturing these relationships at SF BATS and, in October, at the Dallas Tarot Convention. And I look forward to seeing what I harvest from these events. I also see that the work I’ve done in our new home is also just the beginning of the projects we’ll be doing to continue to turn this place into a reflection of our personalities.

I hope that everyone out there takes time today to think about what you have harvested so far this year. Pull a Pentacles card and see what Tarot inspires you to write about. House Ritual: Wrap-up and Afterthoughts

It’s been one month since we moved into our new forest retreat. I’m happy to say that almost a week after the rituals were set up that we had 3 buyers who wanted the house. We took the middle bid and put in a contingency that allowed us to stay there until we were able to find our new home.

Our New Home
Our New Home

We also figured out just exactly where we wanted to set our new roots down. We decided that the SW Portland area held the best potential for us in all that we wanted. We put bids on 2 homes before finding the right one. And when we found it, I asked for Lilith, and our house spirit, to help us secure the place. When we found out that our bid was selected out of all the ones they had on it, we were elated.

It took us two weeks to pack everything up. We moved via PODS and by the end of June, we were moved into the new home. I can honestly say, I love being here. It really is a forest retreat with trees and birds, and animals. Our cats have calmed down and the territory has been reset so that everyone is on equal footing.

I’ve never done tarot magick on this magnitude before and I’m excited to report that everything came out as I hoped. Things didn’t go 100% smoothly. We lost two bids before this house, and getting all utilities transitioned over did cause a bit of grief. But in the end, we have a beautiful new home.

Some of the things I’ve learned about doing this is that it takes a LOT of energy to keep up these workings. I mean a lot. I got really tired and had to ask for additional energy support from entities I’m currently working with. I was very emotional but I also knew that what I was doing was for the good of all.

Another thing I noticed came when I started doing some numerology on the street addresses for the homes we selected. The first house we bid on, had a interesting pair of tarot numbers. But it wasn’t an idea pairing for us. The second house was a bit better. But on the house we got, the 5528 pair was perfect. The numbers 20 and 2 equate to Judgement and The High Priestess. Judgement herlds a new beginning and a transition to a higher plane. The High Priestess, on the other hand, represents deeper spiritual knowledge and has connections to the moon. As I’ve been looking for a retreat to help settle down and dive back deeper into my tarot studies, seeing those numbers reaffirmed that we selected the right place to call home.

I’m also learning just how powerful the manifestation ritual spread is and how well it worked for me. I look forward to continuing to integrate it into my tarot and magical practices. I also hope that if you try it in any capacity, that you have fun with it, modify it to make it your own, and let me know how it goes for you.
That said, if you have any comments or questions on how to use tarot in conjunction with magic, please feel free to contact me and I’ll do my best to help you achieve your goals.

Tarot Blog Hop: Litha

Happy Summer Solstice everyone! A special welcome to the visitors from John Marani’s website. I hope you find this post as warm and inviting as the others along the hop!

I can’t believe it’s Summer Solstice already. Living in the Pacific Northwest, you’d never guess it. We’ve had more rain than sun this season. I’m hoping that with the dawning of the sun today that it brings in more sun to our wet lands. As far as the Solstice is concerned, this is a time to celebrate the full power of the sun’s rays. It’s a time to get stuff done, and to honor the heat and warmth of Nature.

The topic for the Tarot Blog hop, run by Chloë McCracken was, “Celebrate the Sunrise.” And man, what a great topic! My mind instantly went to wanting to talk about how my impending move from Vancouver, WA to Portland, OR begins by packing all our possessions into a POD.

Unfortunately, it’s not very tarot related. So once again, I’ve pulled out my trusty Shadowscapes tarot to help me brainstorm ideas.

The Star from the Shadowscapes Tarot

Brainstorming with tarot is a fun idea. I’ve created stories from cards, names of groups, and even picked gifts just by looking at the cards. It’s very easy to do too. All you need to do is to select a card (or more) from your deck and then you allow the card’s name, number, image, symbols, meanings, etc. to help you create ideas.

The card I’ve drawn to help me Celebrate the Sunrise for this Summer Solstice is The Star. Now when I look at this card, the first thing that comes into my mind is how blue this card is. There’s a lot of blue and purples. So i think about our blue sky. This leads me into thinking about how I should wake up with the sunrise and look to the sky.

From there, I get the following list:

  • Bless the Eastern sky in the morning.
  • Wear light colored clothes, to keep my body cool while loading the POD (inspired by the white clothed person).
  • Count all the blessings that the Universe has given me (inspired by the meaning of the Star as being a card oh hopes and wishes).
  • Visit a pond that has fish in it (inspired by the water and the fish displayed in the card).
  • Learn more ways to tread lightly on the Earth (inspired the way the main figure walks).

Now I have a whole list of ways that I can celebrate the sunrise tomorrow and throughout the warmer weather (when it arrives). Celebrating the solstice, or any holiday for that matter, doesn’t need to be extravagant… sometimes the best celebrations are when you honor and enjoy the simple things in life. I hope you enjoyed this post and have a wonderfully inspired Summer Solstice.

WTTD Card of 2012: The Wheel of Fortune

Shadowscapes Wheel of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune from the Shadowscapes Tarot

Happy World Tarot and Towel Day you hoopy froods. I’m wearing my Shadowscapes necklace, tarot tiara, and listening to tarot-themed music as I type this. I got my tarot deck and towel sitting next to me and I’m getting ready to have a social WTTD today.

Today’s draw for World Tarot day is: The Wheel of Fortune. What a wonderfully circular card to have. The Wheel of Fortune shows us the cycles that are present in the world. The seasons, the elements, and the personalities we all have within ourselves. It reminds us that we can be in the calm center of the storm, or that we can be spun about without having any choice in the matter. It’s the center of the major arcana and is a happy balance for today. As it also represents karma and the things that “come around,” here’s wishing you all a wonderful day today filled with joyous laughter, sun, and the blessings of knowledge that comes from the cards.

In a few hours, my friend Ember arrives. As we’ve done two years in a row, we’ll celebrate this wondrous day by playing with our tarot decks, swapping readings, and having fun. This year plans to be bigger than before because in addition to our little party, we’ll be heading over to Portland to join another celebration with even more local tarot enthusiasts.

I’ll be back later tomorrow with the wrap up of today’s activities, but until then… have a wonderfully tarot-inspired day and always know where your towel is.

House Ritual: Making a Smooth Transition

In this post I’ll describe how I used the Ritual Manifestation spread to attempt the final goal of making a smooth transition for us in this move. This was done on the last night of the full moon. The last night I have to make sure that the energies go into making our swift move into Portland come together.

This ritual layout was a bit trickier for me than the other two. In this one, I wanted something called a smooth transition. I didn’t know exactly what that looked like except that I didn’t want a lot of stress to hit us as we packed everything up, signed documents, and moved from our old house to the new home.

Layout for a Smooth Transition to a New Home

I could have selected one focus card, however, due to the nature and ambiguity of this goal, I looked through another Rider Waite deck and ended up pulling 3 cards that fit the bill. So, for this ritual’s focus, we have The Sun, the 8 of Wands, and the 2 of Pentacles.

I choose The Sun because I associate happiness with this card. It’s about being in the moment, enjoying the here and now, and allowing things to happen as they will. I choose the 8 of Wands because I wanted a swift resolution and transaction and the card represents swiftness. Finally, I choose the 2 of Pentacles because I wanted the transition to be balanced.

Around the focus, I have the 9 of Wands, The High Priestess, the 3 of Cups, and then the 10 of Swords. Collectively, I read these as finding my center, holding my ground, know and understand that the time for celebration was at hand as everything will go as I could use it, and finally… and ending. The 10 of Swords is a tricky card. For it does mean endings. It’s not the happiest card in the deck but in this case, I choose to see it at face value… that all this will end and end in the way I want it. However, I couldn’t help but keep that card in mind. Just in case something may have cropped up.

As I did with the first ritual, I moved this one’s layout to a safe and hidden location. When I have to hide my layouts, I just move the cards as they appear in their positions. Putting them in a book, or a box, is easiest but all that matters is that their positions remain undisturbed.

And now that these rituals are running, I try and forget about them. I let them work their mojo on getting the house sold, finding us the perfect new home to move into, and making a swift and painless transition that would get us into the new place within 30 days of finding the house. I’ll write a final wrap-up post once we find the new place and have had time to settle ourselves into it.
